Upward Basketball is one of the most exciting evangelistic sports ministries in the country. Designed to promote community outreach and to develop volunteer leaders in your church, Upward Basketball and Cheerleading uses something as simple as the game of basketball to reach children and their families for Christ.

Specifically designed for K -- 6th grade boys and girls, Upward Basketball and Cheerleading seeks to develop the self-esteem of each participant, while teaching respect for authority, sportsmanship, character, and basketball skills.

Our Upward Basketball Program runs through December to March. In our 1st year (2001) program we had approximately 200 kids participate. In our 2nd year (2002), we had almost 300 children! In our 3rd year (2003), we had 350 kids. In our 4th year (2004), we had about 370 kids! In our 5th year (2005), we had 361 kids! In our 6th season (06-07) we had 360 basketball players and 65 cheerleaders for a total of 425 participating!

We are excited to continue the Upward Cheerleading Ministry this season. The program is designed for girls

K - 6th grade. All are welcome - there are no try outs.

 

The purposes of Upward Sports are:

•  To share the love of Jesus Christ with each child, cheerleader, coach, referee, and family.
  
• To help every child to grow as Jesus did spiritually, physically, mentally, and socially.
  
• To help every child develop character, an understanding of sportsmanship, and a respect for authority in any situation, on and off the court.
  
• To help every child develop self-esteem and a sense of personal value.
  
• To teach every child the fundamentals of basketball and help them grow in their understanding and enjoyment of the sport.

   

  UPWARD BASKETBALL & CHEERLEADING IS UNIQUE, COMPARED TO OTHER LEAGUES.

• Biblical devotions at every practice
  
• Biblical devotions at halftime of every game
  
• Scripture memory for every child
  
• Equal playing and cheering time for every child
  
• Separate leagues for boys and girls
  
• Each child signs up as an individual - not as a group or a team
  
• Individual awards after each game & practice
  
• Each Referee/Coach/Parent/Child understands and uses "The Circle of Praise" (not "The Circle
  of Criticism")
  
• No score kept for 1 & 2 grade leagues
• No league standings kept for any league
  
• Objective evaluations for each player
